Anthony Armstrong, former chief financial officer at SpaceX’s xAI, is joining Coinbase’s board, Coinbase said.

Armstrong, who has no relation to Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong, left xAI as CFO earlier this year after joining last fall. Before joining xAI, Armstrong, a former Morgan Stanley banker, advised on Elon Musk’s Twitter takeover in 2022. In 2025, he worked for Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency.

Coinbase said it’s bringing in Armstrong for his background in finance, tech and driving efficiency. “The intersection of regulated financial services and crypto is where some of the most consequential work in the industry is happening, and I wanted to be closer to it,” Anthony Armstrong said in a statement.
