Real Estate Startup REX Raises $45M

A mix of new and established firms—Opendoor, Compass, Redfin and Zillow to name a few—have expanded their services across the U.S. in recent years to make buying or selling a house cheaper or easier. A more under-the-radar player now worth watching might be REX, which says it can sell homes cheaper than an agent by using digital tools to market houses directly to potential buyers, outside the entrenched Multiple Listing Service.

The firm announced a $45 million Series C on Tuesday from individual investors including, Amit Singhal, the former senior vice president of search at Google and Dick Schulze, the founder of Best Buy. REX says it will now expand to Sacramento, Calif., and Portland, Ore.
