Disney said it would acquire Sky News and operate it for 15 years if 21st Century Fox’s bid to buy the 61% in Sky that Fox doesn’t already own is successful. The proposal by Disney addresses the U.K. government’s concerns about Rupert Murdoch’s Fox owning Sky News.
The proposal makes sense given that Fox has agreed to sell its Sky interest and the bulk of its assets to Disney. But now Fox will have to raise its bid for the remaining Sky stake since Comcast has already made a higher-price offer. And that isn’t even the main event: Comcast recently launched a bidding war against Disney to acquire most of Fox’s assets outright, an offer that Fox’s board is expected to ask Disney to counter as soon as tomorrow.
