Lionsgate will be laying off 26 employees from its motion picture division, according to Variety. The company is also severing its relationship with production company Code Black, a division that produced films geared towards black audiences. The layoffs come at a time when the movie industry across the board is seeing its employment ranks sag, as U.S. movie attendance drops and streaming television continues to divert more eyeballs away from films. Lionsgate has struggled to find a successful movie franchise since the wrap of the “Hunger Games” and “Twilight” movies.
