Amazon Scraps AI Recruiting Tool With Bias Against Women

Amazon is scrapping a computer program that it had used to review job applicants’ resumes because it realized the tool was biased against women, Reuters reports. The tool, which used artificial intelligence, was trained using sample resumes the company had in the past received mostly from men, so it downgraded women. The industry often talks about how AI will eventually solve many of today’s problems. This example is another reminder that algorithms are made by humans and can perpetuate their biases.
