Google is scrapping a contested interest-based advertising system it was developing as part of its efforts to phase out online trackers called third-party cookies and taking a new approach, the company said Tuesday. Under the new proposal, which Google is calling “topics”, a user’s Chrome browser detects some of their top areas of interest each week based on the websites the person visits....
