I was at the embarcadero in San Francisco a few days ago and saw a dozen of these scooters for hire on the sidewalk. People seemed excited and were playing with them, but then a cop pulled over and told everyone they couldn't use them without a helmet under California law. The scooters were quickly abandoned because no helmets were provided. I already felt like the use cases for these scooters weren't thought through all the way, but this really drove that idea home.
