Eric Schmidt, Jeff Bezos and Bill Gates are each associated with three of the most successful tech companies of the past few decades. But each are also prolific angel investors, extending their influence into a wide array of new companies across a variety of industries.

With investments in at least 104 companies among them, the three top a list we’ve assembled of tech executives who double as angel investors. Others high up on the list include Mark Zuckerberg and Sergey Brin.

And it doesn’t stop at those well-known names. More than a dozen senior executives at tech companies have stakes in at least one startup, The Information’s reporting showed. (See accompanying chart).

Mr. Stark said officers and senior officials at public companies must be careful not to use the “reputational assets” associated with their roles to gain access to lucrative and exclusive investments..“There’s a general sense that a corporate officer should not be enriching himself privately by virtue of the corporate office that he holds,” he says.
