Pensando Systems, a stealth networking startup founded last year by four ex-Cisco executives, appears to be preparing for a commercial launch. Pensando recently hired former Cisco veteran executive Randy Pond as chief financial officer, according to a person familiar with the matter. Mr. Pond, who spent 22 years at Cisco before leaving in 2015, confirmed that he has joined Pensando but declined to comment on his role. Pensando representatives didn’t respond to requests for comment.
Mr. Pond, as Cisco’s executive vice president of operations, was close with former CEO John Chambers and ex-Cisco Senior Vice President Mario Mazzola, who is one of Pensando’s four co-founders, according to a former Cisco employee. Mr. Pond was well-known inside Cisco for helping the company stabilize relationships with its equipment suppliers in the wake of the 2001 tech industry and stock market crash.
