Imran Khan, formerly the No. 2 executive at Snap, is planning a new ecommerce startup similar to Amazon.com and Jet.com, according to Recode. His startup will likely focus on specialized categories, according to the report.
Mr. Khan is a former Wall Street analyst who had no corporate operating experience before joining Snap. But he is well-connected and will likely have success in raising money. One qualification is that he was heavily involved in marketing Snap’s IPO, which hasn’t turned out well, so he’ll be hoping investors have a short memory.
It’s worth nothing that Mr. Khan’s wife, Cate Khan, has spent many years at Amazon in its Quidsi division, which operated diapers.com and soap.com. Her Linkedin profile says she has worked at Amazon from May 2011 to “present.” If Mr. Khan is lucky, perhaps he can convince her to join him.
