Before OpenAI’s board removed Sam Altman as CEO, divisions bubbled up across the company about whether it was developing artificial intelligence safely enough, The Information reported.

Co-founder Ilya Sutskever on Friday took questions from employees about whether his vote to remove Altman amounted to a coup. He said he disagreed but that the move was necessary to preserve OpenAI’s mission, and he agreed that “backroom removals” of company leaders weren’t a good look, the report said. After Altman was ousted, a key executive, Chairman and President Greg Brockman, resigned. Brockman was an Altman ally.
