Subscribers turned much more downbeat about Snapchat in our latest subscriber survey, in an apparent response to reports that Instagram was doing well with its Snapchat-like Stories product.
Sentiment towards Snapchat has been consistently positive for much of the past 12 months, with a sentiment score of around 40-50%. But in the latest survey, it fell 37 percentage points to 9%. (The sentiment score is the percentage of subscribers who are more optimistic minus the percentage who are less optimistic.) The survey was conducted between Jan. 24 and 30.
The drop in optimism towards Snapchat was the biggest shift in subscriber sentiment among specific companies. Sentiment towards Lyft, which has been solidly negative for the past six months, improved slightly. Lyft’s strong stance against President Trump’s refugee clampdown won it plaudits in the tech industry and among some users. Attitudes may also have been affected by our story from earlier this month that Lyft’s financial performance improved last year.
