Uber and Lyft are ride-sharing companies that provide on-demand transportation services through their mobile applications. Founded in 2009 and 2012 respectively, both companies have disrupted the traditional taxi industry by using technology to connect riders with drivers. Dara Khosrowshahi serves as CEO of Uber, while Lyft is led by CEO David Risher. Competitors in the ride-sharing industry include smaller companies such as Juno and Gett, as well as traditional taxi services.

By Martin Peers · Nov 4, 2025 5:00pm PST
Cue the violins. Perplexity on Tuesday accused Amazon of bullying it by demanding that the AI startup no longer allow its users to send their AI assistants to Amazon to buy stuff. The startup, which is an expert at public relations theatrics, published a long blog post entitled “Bullying Is Not Innovation,” in which it claimed to be “fighting... Cue the violins. By Theo Wayt · Nov 2, 2025 3:00pm PST
Over the past couple of months, my X feed and television have been bombarded with Tesla advertisements. By Martin Peers · Mar 10, 2022 5:00pm PST
Can Uber and Lyft ever catch a break? Just when investors might have thought it was safe to wade back into the ride-hailing waters, thanks to the decline of Omicron, gas prices take off. That’s going to raise fuel costs for drivers—including those working for both ride-hailing services and food-delivery operations like DoorDash—probably causing...
