He also covered the growing conflict over advanced technology between the United States and China with stories about U.S. government efforts to prevent Chinese access to advanced chipmaking tools such as extreme ultraviolet lithography machines. Before joining Reuters, Stephen spent two years at The Information in its early days. Before that, he was the technology editor at the Pacific Coast Business Times in Santa Barbara, California. A graduate of the University of Missouri School of Journalism, Stephen hails from small-town Missouri.
